Is even a probable premenstrual dysphoric disorder diagnosis associated with more severe anxio-depressive symptoms and lower well-being? A preliminary cross-sectional exploratory study

Introduction Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a newly introduced category in the 5 th version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Mental Disorders (DSM-5) highly underdiagnosed worldwide, despite its strong connections to anxiodepressive symptom severity perceived well-being. Objectives Firstly Hungary, our aim was to: (a)assess whether even probable PMDD diagnosis associated with elevated levels depressive anxiety symptoms, decreased perception well-being on an adult women sample; (b)to evaluate report greater fluctuation their affect during different phases menstrual cycle; (c)to examine symptoms lower increase statistical likelihood having diagnosis. Methods An online test battery designed diagnosis, 393 were screened for eligibility study (exclusion criteria involved: irregular use hormonal contraceptives), from which 112 included final analyses. DSM-5-Based Screening Tool Women’s Perceptions Symptoms, Beck’s Depression Inventory, Spielberger’s State Anxiety WHO-5 Well-Being Index assessed. Results Based Tool, sample divided into 1)women (PMDD group,n=67) 2)women without (nonPMDD group,n=45). Menstruation cycles sorted menstrual, from-menstruation-to-ovulation, early luteal late phases. The group exhibited significantly higher (F(1;56,2)=19.394, p ≤0.001) (F(1;35,6)=17.714, scores (F(1;44,3)=4.288, =0.0442) compared nonPMDD regardless cycle they in. Binomial logistic regression model used PMDD: significant (χ2(2)=27.287, ≤0.001), it explained 29.2% variance PMDD. Elevated (B=0.058, S.E.=0.022, Waldχ2(1)=7.142, =0.008,OR=1.060) (B=0.085,S.E.=0.031,Waldχ2(1)=7.480, =0.006,OR=1.089) increased Conclusions Women phase assessed meeting screening tool.
